UCONN Health Half Marathon
Presented by the Hartford Marathon Foundation
The long-time race tradition is moving to Saturday with a limited field in-person half marathon road race. Enjoy a picturesque two-loop 13.1 mile course along the Farmington River and local farmlands that begins and ends in the center of Simsbury, a charming town center with quaint shops and great restaurants.
In-person half marathon participants will start in waves and race bibs will have official B-Tag timing. The event will be modified to adhere to social distancing guidelines with on-site support services provided, including packaged to-go snacks for all to enjoy after.
Not up for the half marathon distance? Find a buddy and take on the brand new 2-Person Relay! The race will follow the same course as the in-person UConn Health Half Marathon, with one exchange zone located exactly at the halfway mark! Each leg is exactly 6.55 miles.
Virtual race options include a 5K, 10K, or half marathon and the return of the popular 3-distance Iron Horse Challenge (which can also be completed by in-person registrants!).
All participants receive a short-sleeve technical shirt and a custom designed finisher medal to commemorate a great race.
Give Back: Please help give back to the community that has opened their streets for participants. Donations of nonperishable food will be collected on race day through the HMF Can drive to benefit Gifts of Love Food Bank in Avon.

Race Details:
There will be ten (10) start waves, starting 2 minutes apart between 7:30 AM and 7:50 AM. Each wave will have up to 75 registrants (updated April 2021), participants must provide their estimated finish time during registration to determine which start wave they’ll be in. Waves will be announced race week. After the race, participants pick up their finisher’s medal and enjoy a pre-packaged snack on the way back to their vehicles. Results will be posted online only at the conclusion of the event, times are based on chip time, there will be no gun time. Final results and divisions will be scored to include runners from all waves.
Virtual Race Details:
Not racing in-person but still want to take part in the action OR make it a multi-distance race challenge weekend? Register for one of three virtual race options (see Iron Horse Challenge for details) and run your race anywhere and anytime between Thursday, June 3rd and Sunday, June 6th:
- Virtual 5K
- Virtual 10K
- Virtual Half Marathon
Submit your results through your haku participant account. Click here for more details.
Participants earn all of the same great swag, and will have it mailed to them after event.
Virtual race participants are urged not to run the official race course on Saturday morning (June 5); doing so will threaten capacity compliance and risk a breach of public health and safety requirements. Compliance by all will be necessary to support the safe return to in-person racing for future events.
Iron Horse Challenge:
Motivated to run more mileage during race weekend? Take on the Iron Horse Challenge and run the 5K, 10K, AND half marathon, live or virtually! Run your 5K and 10K virtually anytime during race weekend, then either run the half marathon virtually or register for the in-person event on Saturday, June 5th. Register for one of the following two options to take part in the challenge:
- Virtual Iron Horse Challenge /// Virtual 5K + Virtual 10K + Virtual Half Marathon
- Hybrid Iron Horse Challenge /// Virtual 5K + Virtual 10K + In-Person Half Marathon
The challenge fee is a $10 add-on to the in-person half marathon or virtual race fee. Challenge participants will receive the official race shirt and individual race finisher’s medal, as well as the special Iron Horse Challenge medal!
* 2-Person Relay is not eligible for the Iron Horse Challenge bundle.
